Smart Grid is a key initiative in the national effort to further energy independence and curb greenhouse gas emissions. Under the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was given the "primary responsibility to coordinate development of a framework that includes protocols and model standards for information management to achieve interoperability of smart grid devices and systems..."
NIST created the SmartGrid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) to work closely with private industry, government, and customer stakeholders in the identification and development of standards critical to achieving a reliable and robust Smart Grid, based upon the "NIST Framework and Roadmap for Smart Grid Interoperability Standards".
Kepware is a voting member of the Industry-to-Grid Domain Expert Working Group and provides analysis and guidance concerning interoperability issues relevant to industrial producers and consumers including new regulations, business models, information technology and communication standards. Kepware interoperability products are an ideal fit for Business to Grid and Industry to Grid applications. |
