Technology Update
Ethernet Encapsulation is the enhanced ability of KEPServerEX serial drivers to communicate directly with terminal servers/Ethernet-to-Serial Converters. A terminal server is essentially a virtual serial port. The terminal server converts TCP/IP messages on the Ethernet network to serial data. Once the message has been converted to a serial form, users can connect standard devices that support serial communications to the terminal server.
Auto-Demotion allows a driver to temporarily place a device off-scan in the event that a device is not responding. By placing a non-responsive device off-line, the driver can continue to optimize its communications with other devices on the same channel by stopping communications with the non-responsive device for a specific time period. After the specific time period has been reached, the driver will re-attempt to communicate with the non-responsive device. If the device is responsive, the device will be placed on-scan, otherwise it will restart its off-scan time period.
Terminal Services - KEPServer V5 delivers special support for Microsoft Terminal Services. With a separated Configuration and Runtime environment, users can now leverage configuration from Terminal Services sessions. All sessions have read capability. You can select the number of sessions to support, as well as an inactivity timeout, so one session will not block other sessions from Write access. Terminal Services support is a standard KEPServer feature, delivered at no extra cost.

-- Turkish Steel Mill Rolls Outs Affordable Solutions
iSDEMiR a full scale Iron and Steel plant specializing in pig iron, billets, slabs, wire rods, coil and hot rolling roll located in Turkey was facing a huge automation project with many control systems and processes needing to be streamlined. With so much disparate equipment scattered throughout the mills, there needed to be a way to manage and monitor all of the data.
-- Briggs and Stratton develops an OEE solution without breaking the budget Briggs and Stratton was aware of one piece of equipment at the plant, delivered as part of an OEM installation, in which the OEM had used Kepware software to communicate from the machine's PLC to a supervisory PC. This prompted an additional investigation into what Kepware had to offer, and to his surprise, he found Kepware's communication solution KEPServerEX offered a range of connectivity to plant floor equipment as well as connectivity to client software applications. |
