Neteon Technologies Pulls Out the Big Guns for Network Monitoring
|
|
Neteon Technologies out of East Brunswick, New Jersey, specializing in Industrial Ethernet, Serial Connectivity and Fiber to Ethernet solutions was asked by their client, a large military base, to upgrade their legacy fiber Ethernet network. The military base had been collecting HVAC facility related data from multiple PLCs over their existing fiber Ethernet network and wanted to achieve the following improvement:
- Provide network management capability
- Provide network media redundancy
- Increase the overall bandwidth of the network to support future applications and network expansions
After the on-site evaluation of their existing fiber network, Neteon proposed using Moxa's managed redundant networking solution together with Kepware iSNMP software for this installation and network upgrade project. The project involved creating a fully managed network, capable of transmitting real-time information from production facilities with asset data to multiple servers which were located in the data center to manage the performance of the 18 water chilling stations throughout the military base.
Neteon achieved this task by integrating Kepware iSNMP driver with Moxa industrial Ethernet switches into an enterprise-wide managed SCADA network as the data acquisition platform. The center control room included several servers with Iconics Genesis32 OPC client software that form a control terminal for remote control and monitoring of the data manage platforms. A fiber Ethernet network was set up to link the enterprise wide control room with 45 GE Intelligent Platforms (GE Fanuc) Modbus PLCs for the purpose of collecting data remotely. The system adopted a range of industrial managed switches to form a redundant Ethernet network between the control level network and the servers in the enterprise control room.
Each chilling platform and every water treatment station on the base uses Genesis32 and Ethernet-based touch panel instruments connected to the control PLC on the floating platforms in the field. The PLCs are equipped with Ethernet ports and transmit data over the new Ethernet fiber network through Moxa industrial Ethernet switches. The Kepware SNMP Server successfully imported the MIB file from field PLC and managed switches without any problem. The customer is very satisfied with the overall solution and the ease of use of Kepware SNMP software.
