KEPServerEX Installation Support

KEPServerEX installs on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. Under most circumstances this procedure occurs without a problem. There are those rare occasions where something goes wrong. Here are the top reasons:

  1. The user gets a write error or access violation while attempting to install the server. This occurs when the user attempts to install the server while logged-in without Administrator rights. KEPServerEX must install components to the window's system directory, to do this the install program must have Administrator rights on the PC.
  2. The install cannot update an existing installation while KEPServerEX is running. KEPServerEX must be shut down in order to install a new version of new driver. This includes when the OPC server is running as an NT service.
  3. KEPServerEX cannot execute after install due to a bad or missing DLL. This can occur if the user's system had other software running during the installation procedure or s/he had an anti-virus package running that either prevents system files from being changed or replaces them after the KEPServerEX installation completes. In any case all applications must be stopped on the PC before KEPServerEX can be installed.
  4. KEPServerEX cannot install due to the hard disk space required. KEPServerEX can require up to 100 megs of available hard disk space to install depending on user options.
  5. After installation and upon first run KEPServerEX reports a failure to determine machine ID. We have seen this occur when the user is running applications like PCAnywhere in the background. Have the user stop all programs and re-run the KEPServerEX installation. This has taken care of the issue in every case.
  6. The user reports that the driver they bought does not appear to be installed. This occurs due to the user not actually selecting the desired driver from the driver list during the install. Instruct the user to re-run the setup and ensure that they select the desired driver and that the driver is clearly marked with a check to indicate that is will be installed.
