KEPServerEX Licensing Support

Note: Please refer to the Kepware Installation and Licensing Guide (PDF) for information about other Kepware products.

From the KEPServerEX|Help menu, select Contents and refer to the section entitled "Purchasing and Licensing a driver" for a detailed description of the license process. Make certain that no client application is connected to the server when you unlock a driver. If a client is connected (check server status bar), the server will continue to run as a demo and will time out after either 2 hours or the 10 day grace period, depending on which demo period is active.

Note: For reasons listed above it is a good practice to close down and restart the KEPServerEX application after registering and unlocking a driver.

Demo periods:
The Simulator driver has no demo limitations, all other drivers run for 2 hours at a time. Demo drivers are only limited by time. They do not have tag count limits.

Registration periods:
After the user enters in a valid license number provided for a specific driver, the user will have 10 days in which to contact Kepware for an unlock password.

License Registration & Unlock:

Online License Registration & Unlock

If you are unable to use our online unlock interface please follow the steps below.

To obtain a password for your product, the following information is required. Kepware will use this information to generate a unique password for your license number and PC.

  1. License number, computer ID, and server version number. These three items are displayed in the server unlock window.
  2. Your company name (the name to which the software will be licensed).
  3. Your individual contact information (name, phone number or email address).

Please send this information by email to password@kepware.com. For further information, contact Kepware Technologies – phone: 1-888-Kepware (1-888-537-9273) or 207-775-1660, ext. 211 for Technical Support.

License Transfer issues:
The license transfer process is thoroughly described in the KEPServerEX Help file. The process is very similar to many other software products in the automation industry. The most common problem is that users do not read the help and do not understand that they must install the server and driver on the destination PC and prepare the floppy disk on the destination PC before they attempt to transfer the license from the source PC. If the Transfer option is grayed out on the Help menu, make certain that all OPC or DDE clients are closed down and disconnected from the server then select File|New to open an empty project. If a driver is currently in use, the license for that driver will not be transferrable.
