Does KEPServerEX Support Communications with ControlNet devices?

Last Update: 11/12/2018

The Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet driver supports two kinds of ControlNet devices: Logix5000 processors and PLC-5C processors.

Either way, the immediate connection from the server PC must be via Ethernet to a Logix5000 Ethernet module (like 1756-ENBT). ControlNet PCI cards are not supported. From this first Ethernet module, communications continue via the Logix backplane to a ControlNet module (like 1756-CNB) and then to the end device.

The driver supports routing through other CIP networks (such as hopping from one ControlLogix chassis to another via Ethernet) between the first Ethernet module and the last ControlNet module. If the end device is a Logix5000 processor, use the ControlLogix 5500 model selection in the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet driver (or other model selection matching the Logix5000 processor). If the end device is a PLC-5C, use the ControlNet Gateway: PLC-5C model selection.

Note: For information on constructing a Logix Device ID with ControlNet routing, refer to the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet driver product manual.
