How Can I Connect to the SquareD PLC via Ethernet Without Ethernet Encapsulation?

Last Update: 3/18/2021

Because the Symax network has cross talking or unsolicited chatter, Ethernet Encapsulation is impossible with the SquareD PLC.

Niobrara Research and Development is a third-party card developer for SquareD PLCs. They make three cards that can be used with the Modbus Suite to read and write data from SquareD PLCs. Descriptions of the cards are as follows:

  • SPE4-3D: This is a Modbus RTU Client/Server Multiport card. If a port is configured as a Modbus RTU Server, users can utilize Ethernet Encapsulation via the Modbus Serial driver.
  • EPE5-T: This card is equipped with a 10BaseT Ethernet port and four RS-422/485 serial ports. It can go from Modbus Ethernet to the Symax network via the Modbus TCP/IP Ethernet driver.
  • MEB-RT: This card is a fully-functional, bi-directional Modbus Plus to Ethernet bridge. It can be used with either the Modbus Plus or Modbus Ethernet drivers.
