Upgrading to ClientAce Version 4.0

Last Update: 11/7/2018

When upgrading to ClientAce version 4.0, users must get a new license and update the project's *.dll files. For more information, refer to the instructions below.

Note: This procedure is only required the first time that the project runs using the new ClientAce version 4.0 library.

  1. To start, ensure that Visual Studio is shutdown. Then, install ClientAce version 4.0, running as an Administrator.

Note: ClientAce version 4.0 requires both the .NET 4.0 Framework and Visual Studio 2010 or 2012. If the project will continue using the .NET 3.5 Framework or Visual Studio 2008 or older, there is no need to update to ClientAce version 4.0.
  2. Next, select the .NET versions and Visual Studio environments that will be supported. At this time, only Visual Studio 2008, 2010, and 2012 are supported. Then, complete the install.
  3. ClientAce version 4.0 requires a new license. First, backup the existing project. Then, open the License Utility and run it as an Administrator.
  4. The ClientAce project will need to reference new *.dll files, meaning that the previous files distributed with the project must be removed and replaced. To do so, open the project's Debug and Release Output Bin folders and delete all existing files.
  5. Next, open Visual Studio 2010 or 2012 and load the project, converting it if needed.
  6. Remove the project references to the older ClientAce library files and replace with ClientAce version 4.0's library file references.
  7. With the project open, select Build | Clean Solution from the main menu.
  8. Then, compile the project and ensure that it runs correctly.
