Which Special Characters Cannot Be Used in the Server?
Last Update: 11/7/2018
When naming a channel, device, tag group, or tag, the following characters are reserved or restricted:
- Periods
- Double quotation marks
- Leading underscores
- Leading or trailing spaces
Note: Several of the restricted characters can be used in specific situations.
- Periods may be used in aliases to separate the original channel name and the device name. For example, a valid alias name is "Channel1.Device1".
- Underscores may be used after the first character. For example, a valid name is "Tag_1".
- Spaces may be used within the name. For example, a valid name is "Tag 1".
Important: The Server Configuration's user interface will not allow the reserved characters to be entered where they will create an error condition. When using the CSV Import function to automatically generate tags, names that violate these restrictions will be noted with error messages in the server's Event Log.
