Why Can't I See a Window or Dialog that Has Been Opened from the Server Configuration or Administration Utilities?
Last Update: 11/7/2018
Problem:
1. A property dialog box that has been opened from the Configuration Utility does not appear on the desktop. The server Configuration also appears to be locked up.
2. An application window that has been opened from the Server Administration Utility does not appear on the desktop, but is visible on the taskbar as a running application.
Possible Cause:
1. The dialog or window was previously closed on a second monitor that has since been removed. As such, the object's stored position exists off the current desktop.
2. A remote desktop connection has been made to the PC running the server that has two monitors. The dialog or window has been opened and closed on the second monitor (to which remote desktop does not have access).
Solution:
To resolve the issue, refer to the instructions below.
- Press Alt and Spacebar to invoke the System menu.
- Then, select Move by pressing the down arrow and pressing Enter. Use the arrow keys to move the window back onto the screen. The mouse can also be used to move the window back on screen.
- Click one arrow key one time and then move the mouse. The missing window should now be located wherever the mouse was moved. This behavior will continue until the mouse button is clicked again, giving the window a new location in normal screen space.
