Where Can I Specify the Capture and Storage Settings for the Event Log and the Diagnostic Logs?

Last Update: 11/7/2018

KEPServerEX version 5.8 includes the ability to capture the server Event Log in multiple files and over an extended period of time. In KEPServerEX version 5.9, this same functionality was added to OPC Diagnostics and Channel Diagnostics. For information on specifying the capture and storage settings for the Event Log and the Diagnostic Logs, refer to the instructions below.

  1. To start, right-click on the Server Administration Utility located in the Windows Taskbar. Then, select Settings.
  2. Next, open the Event Log tab. A section will be displayed for each log type that contains the same parameters. Descriptions of the parameters are as follows:
    • Persistence Mode: This parameter specifies how to save the log file. Options include Memory, Single File, and Extended Data Store. Descriptions of the options are as follows:
      • Memory: In this mode, a log will not be created. A user-specified number of event records will be retained before the oldest records are deleted and new records are logged. The memory cache will be cleared every time the server is restarted.
      • Single File: In this mode, a single file will be persisted to the hard drive. A user-specified number of event records will be retained before the oldest records are deleted and new records are logged. This is the default setting.
      • Extended Data Store: In this mode, multiple files will store the event records for a specified number of days before removing them from the disk. The contents will be restored from the distributed file store on disk when the server is started.
    • Max records: This parameter specifies the maximum number of records that will be logged in a single file before the oldest records start being deleted. It is only available when the Persistence Mode is set to Memory or Single File. The valid range is 100 to 30000 records. The default setting is 1000 records.
    • Log file path: This parameter specifies where the log files will be stored. It is only available when the Persistence Mode is set to Single File or Extended Data Store. The default setting is the server's Application Data folder.
    • Max single file size: This parameter specifies the maximum size that a single log file can attain before it will be closed and a new one will be created. It is only available when the Persistence Mode is set to Extended Data Store. The valid range is 100 to 10000 kilobytes. The default setting is 1000 kilobytes.
    • Min days to preserve: This parameter specifies the minimum number of days that the server will keep a log file before it is discarded. It is only available when the Persistence Mode is set to Extended Data Store. The valid range is 1 to 90 days. The default setting is 30 days.
  3. Make changes to the parameters are desired.
  4. Once finished, click OK.
