Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Ethernet Error Message: CIP Error=0x01, Ext. Error=0x0311

Last Update: 11/12/2018

Possible Cause:
This error can occur when communicating to a device with a NET-ENI module. The CIP Error 0x01 means that a connection to a module failed. The Extended Error 0x0311 means that the controller has received an error while attempting to configure a connection with the module.

A setting must be changed in the NET-ENI module to prevent this error while communicating to a Logix5000 PLC (such as ControlLogix, CompactLogix, or FlexLogix). In Allen-Bradley's ENI/ENIW Utility, open the ENI IP Addr tab and then turn on the CompactLogix Routing option.

This was tested on an ENI module with Firmware Revision 2.31.
