Unable to Write to SQL Table 'Read Only' Error Message

Last Update: 2018/11/07

There are a few reasons why this error may occur.

  1. When the device looks at the table created in the SQL Server, it may find that writes were not enabled.
  2. There may be an error with permissions. Users connecting to the SQL database must have "Update Permissions" selected or they will be unable to write to any of the fields in the table.
  3. The table may not have been indexed before it was written to. When accessing files, users do not connect to the database directly; instead, they are presented with a snapshot of the requested record set. To change the data, the ODBC interface updates the actual data from the snapshot. The only way to make sure that the proper record is updated is to reference it within the index. If a connection is made to a database without an index, the ODBC interface from Microsoft will coerce the permissions settings to Read Only regardless of how it has been configured. This will ensure that no erroneous data changes are made.
