How Is the Ping Interval Controlled In the Ping Driver?

Last Update: 2018/11/07

The device will only be pinged when a client application is connected to the server and requests updates from Status or comStatus tags. The Ping Interval will depend on the type of client application that is connected to the server.

  • OPC Clients: The OPC Client sets the Update Rate, which is used as the Interval Rate for pinging the device.
  • Non-OPC Clients: DDE clients like Excel or clients with native interfaces to the server do not have the ability to set an Update Rate. As such, the tag's Scan Rate or the alias's Scan Override are used as the Interval Rate for pinging the device. The default Scan Rate for a tag is 100 milliseconds.

Note: In KEPServerEX version 5.6, a new setting was added to the project designer to set a scan floor or lock a scan rate that overrides the Update Rate specified by a connecting client application. This setting is available in all drivers.
